2015 was very big year for us. As you know, we had to move our school from the building we had occupied since the 1990’s. After a long and uncertain process, we acquired an old alternative school in Johnson County that was in major disrepair. With the new school year looming, we had a strict deadline to meet to get the school ready for students and faculty. There was no way this would have happened without the amazing contributions of several groups who traveled to eastern Kentucky to help us repair and build classrooms, offices, and the outreach area.

We would like to acknowledge the tireless work of Helping Hands Christian Missions from Indiana. 2015 was their 10th year of working with us, and I cannot say enough how much we value their friendship...

Lady Knight named Week 21 Girls Player of the Week

After averaging 41 points, 21 rebounds, and shooting 77% from the line, Sophomore, Lauren Wright, was selected as WYMTs Week 21 Player of the week. This is the second time she has received the honor.

Both Piarist VolleyKnight teams easily defeated Martin County Middle School at home on Thursday night, which was also Eighth Grade Knight, and Abby Hall was honored in a ceremony held between the two matches.

Sixth grader Lane Eckle led the charge and had a game-high and career high 15 points on serve during the A-team match, serving six consecutive points on serve, and scoring twice off tips, during the first set and hitting seven consecutive points on serve, including an ace, the second time around during the second set. The VolleyKnights won 21-9 and 21-15 for their eighth season victory.

There will be THREE entrance exams given at The Piarist School on Saturday morning at 9 am for students interested in entering grades 6-10. The exams will be given at the School on APRIL 25, MAY 2, and MAY 16.

The Piarist School is a tuition-free college preparatory school, which will be moving in August to old Route 23, just over the Johnson County line and across from Porter Elementary. Free transportation to the School is available from selected locations.

The entrance exams will all be administered at the current school, which is located at the second traffic light on Route 80 in Martin. Students will be taking the ScholasticTtesting Service Placement Test. The middle school test lasts an hour, and the high school test last about three hours.

Our Future Piarist School

Many groups have been working very hard over the summer helping to renovate our “new” school building, which is located on old Route 23, across from Porter Elementary in Hagerhill. The School will be ready for use in August 2015, at the start of our 26th academic year. BUT we will remain in our current location for the entire 25th academic year, which begins August 15, 2014 with park day at the spillway at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park. We look forward to seeing you there. Students may arrive at the park beginning at 9 am, and the student-parent cookout will begin around 5 pm. This will be a great opportunity for students to meet their classmates and for parents to meet your children’s teachers.

Introducing the New Salyersville Bus

The new Piarist School bus just arrived, and its inaugural run will be on Monday, August 18. It will pick up students from Salyersville and from the Mountain Arts Center. Fr. Tom will have the new bus schedules available at the Park Day on Friday, August 15 at the Spillway of Jenny Wiley State Park. The cookout for students and parents will begin at 5 pm and schedules will be distributed then.

Federal Aid Programs May Help Students Interested In Health Careers

The federal government offers several financial aid programs that may help students interested in health care careers pay college expenses.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has four scholarship programs:

  • National Health Service Corps Scholarship: For students who plan to become physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwives or physician’s assistants.
